ESA Annual Colloquium 2021

The English Students’ Association is now calling for submissions to our seventh annual conference, the Colloquium! The conference features presentations from English undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty members, and will be held virtually on Thursday, March 11, 2021.

Our submission deadline is currently Sunday, January 3rd, 2021 at 11:59 pm
If you don’t have a paper to submit but still want to get involved, you can also apply to be an editor! Please visit our website for criteria and the application form; the deadline for editor applications is Sunday, January 17th, 2021 at 11:59 pm.

Editor Criteria:
Interested in gaining editing experience? Looking to take part in an enriching academic conference? Collaborating with fellow English students? The ESA is looking for editors to assist with the 2021 Colloquium!

Editors will have a hand in selecting the pieces that will be presented at the conference, as well as work closely with those selected to refine their work.

Some criteria:

  • Student at UBC (all majors and years are welcome!)
  • Exemplary communication and writing skills
  • Interest in engaging with writers at UBC
  • Open to providing and receiving constructive feedback
  • Strong sense of time management
  • Able to virtually attend the Colloquium on March 11th
  • Editorial experience is an asset

When can I submit?

The deadline for submissions is currently Sunday, January 3rd, 2021 at 11:59 pm

Who can submit?

Are you a UBC graduate or undergraduate student? Then you can submit!

I dont have a paper yet, only an idea!

Thats a good start! If you had a paper you were working on this term, they also make great submission pieces.

How long should my presentation/essay be?

Presentations will be approximately ten minutes long; the suggested essay length is 8-10 pages.

What should I submit?

Please fill out the correct application (see links above). We will follow up with more questions! Please do not include your name or student number on any of the documents you submit.

The Colloquium has no theme, so send us whatever research you’re most passionate about. (Caveat: it has to be your own research.)

I don’t want to present but I still want to be involved!

Not to worry! We will have a quick zoom workshop and be there to support you!

Conference Information

When is the conference? March 11th from 6-8pm. The conference will be held virtually.
